Let us put on our vintage hats and gloves as we hear the Federation Day story again following an unusual year dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The GFWC constitution was ratified on April 24, 1890. Under the outstanding leadership of Jane Cunningham Croly, 63 clubs across the United States met in New York City where they officially formed the General Federation of Women’s Clubs!
All clubs are encouraged to celebrate GFWC’s monumental history on April 24th or during the GFWC Volunteers in Action Week (April 18-25, 2021). This is an excellent time to increase your club’s presence in your local community. Consider submitting a Federation Day press release to your local media to share the history and accomplishments of your club and those of GFWC.
Also, please share current projects your club is involved in on social media. Take time to access the GFWC and GFWC-NC Facebook pages on Federation Day to view and share. Celebrate your great work in serving others! It is a super way to raise community awareness and recruit members.
We are announcing a special Federation Day Contest to showcase this year’s projects. Send your 150-200 word entry and a picture of your Federation Day event to Pauletta Parker; parkerpr62@gmail.com by May 25th. (You can mail them as well; just make sure that they are post marked by the 25th.) The Club with the most fun and creative project will win $100 in gift cards to use for programs in their local community. We will share the entries and announce the winner in June on Facebook.
As you celebrate Federation Day 2021, remember to record the time it takes to plan, publicize, and manage your events. As a reminder, you may also submit your Club’s Federation Day celebrations and projects on the Federation Day Award Entry form next January.
