GFWC Signature Program: Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention

By supporting existing activities, working with established programs, and initiating educational opportunities for club women and local citizens, the goal of the GFWC Signature Program: Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention, is to increase awareness and prevention of the widespread occurrence of domestic abuse in communities across the nation. GFWC works with various established programs and initiating educational opportunities for club members and local citizens. Program focus areas: Intimate Partner Violence, Child Abuse, Teen Dating Violence, Campus Sexual Assault, Elder Abuse, Violence Against Native American Women, Military Sexual Assault, Human Trafficking for sexual purposes.

Project Ideas

Create awareness campaigns using guidelines from National Resource Organizations.
Prepare information on healthy relationships using resources.
Introduce programs on life skills.
Support law enforcement efforts and/or assistance programs.
Volunteer in local shelters.
Provide information of local therapy projects.
Assist with clothing and hygiene needs.
Present avenues for job training.
Introduce professional development opportunities available.
Locate scholarships available for survivors.

GFWC Success for Survivors Scholarship

As part of the GFWC Signature Program: Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention, the Success For Survivors Scholarship was created in 2012 to lend a helping hand to those impacted by intimate partner violence who are pursuing higher education. The scholarship aims to provide survivors with a means to achieve both financial and personal independence. Since its inception in 2012, GFWC has awarded $50,000 in scholarship funds. GFWC awards scholarships annually.

GFWC is excited to enter a fundraising agreement with Starfish Project for the 2020–2022 Administration. Starfish Project is an organization that supports women escaping human trafficking and exploitation. The organization is currently working with more than 150 survivors to provide a fresh start in life by arranging safe housing, healthcare, education and training, and employing them to make jewelry and garments to support its mission.
