2018-2020 Thriving Children

 

The GFWC-NC Director of Junior’s Special Project “Thriving Children” enhances Advocates for Children further, with more of a focus on healthy food and outdoor play. Focusing on projects that further wellness, healthy living and education.  Clubwomen can become advocates by working to:

  • Ensure children are protected from harmful situations
  • Encourage healthy physical and emotional lifestyles
  • Impact policy to improve children’s lives

WELLNESS & HEALTHY LIVING

  • Birth to five development
  • Physical/Dental and Mental health
  • Outdoor play and access to fresh fruits and vegetables

EDUCATION:

  • Academic readiness
  • Literacy

SPECIAL EVENTS:

  • Stamp Out Hunger – Every second Saturday in May
  • Child Abuse Prevention Month – Each year in April
  • Advocates for Children Week: October 21 – 27, 2018 / October 20 – 26, 2019 (See Advocates for Children for more information)

CLUB PROJECT IDEAS:

  • Advocacy events hosted/participated in (play dates in the park, child abuse prevention, wellness screenings, Mommy & me reading events, farmers market)
  • Number of books provided to children (if clubs were to offer a book drive or hosted an event to get children signed up with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library)
  • Backpacks provided (with healthy snacks)
